Across the ditcH

Well, after careful consideration, I have decided to post a movie of the month...seeing as I do tend to watch way to many, thought I may as well post what I thought was the best movie for each passing month.
This month I have seen quite a few flicks, some of the Oscar Nominees and some not. February was obviously a month of Oscars and loads of hype surrounds the pictures in question. So I decided that I would begin to go through the movies that were nominated. I have seen Kong 5 times so I think that I have sufficiently seen this film for quite sometime. Some of the other movies I saw this month were Syriana, Memoirs of a Geisha, Jarhead and Walk the Line. I also saw numerious DVDs such as Layer Cake, Stealth, Crash and various others.

I thought Memoirs of a Geisha was to take the win this month, as it was a really beautiful film that really captured the era, and the story of the Geisha, although I have heard that it is quite different from the book that so many have read (which I may now do) I found the colours and the story really refreshing as it is depicts the struggle of a young girl becoming a Geisha, it is not a story that many of us know of, in a culture that we often know little of also. The visual aesthetic of the film also, is quite captivating, as the colours of the scenery, the costumes and construction of a the village are really beautifully done, taking you into this world of a Geisha. I give this movie and 8.5 out of 10. Go check it out!! I dont believe you will be disappointed.
